More about this artwork

The painting vividly depicts a cluster of barren, gnarled trees standing atop a grassy hill. Their trunks, twisted and dark, reach upwards into a tumultuous sky dominated by heavy, swirling clouds tinged with hues of blue and violet. This stormy atmosphere contrasts starkly with the fiery orange and red shades of the distant tree line, which may suggest a setting or rising sun. The foreground is characterized by a lush, vividly green landscape that curves gently into a tranquil body of water visible in the distance. The intensity of colors and the dynamic strokes imbue the scene with a sense of both raw natural beauty and dramatic, almost surreal energy.

Borisas Jokubauskis, born in 1957 in Klaipėda, has remained a resident of the city throughout his life. His artistic career has developed within this harbor city, and the environment profoundly shapes the character apparent in his creations. Klaipėda's distinctive cultural atmosphere serves as a fertile setting for Jokubauskis's artistic pursuits and lasting presence in the art world.

His paintings are marked by an emotional and expressive approach to representing reality. Jokubauskis reinterprets the world using vivid and often daring combinations of color, bringing a remarkable intensity to his art. His works are filled with life, projecting power, bravery, and motivation. Especially in his mountain landscapes, assertive and uninhibited color strokes are combined with refined silhouettes, conveying a sense of majesty and drawing the viewer into poetic enigmas that uplift and invigorate the spirit.

In his pursuit of genuine values, Jokubauskis frequently ventures into the realms of iconographic tradition. Within this framework, he shifts from energetic, expressive methods to a more thoughtful and contemplative style, addressing themes that are meditative and infused with sacredness. On this spiritual path, his artwork seeks to move beyond personal ego, striving instead for unity with the divine and the articulation of timeless truths, resulting in a deeply moving and engaging visual experience for the observer.

Since 1988, Borisas Jokubauskis has been an active participant in the Nida Artists' Association "BRIDGE" and, from 2002 onward, a member of the Žemaitija Artists' Association. He has curated numerous exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad, enriching the cultural scene and fostering artistic exchange through his compelling body of work.
