More about this artwork

The painting presents a dynamic seascape, capturing the raw power of ocean waves. High, rolling waves with frothy, white crests dominate the foreground, each one brimming with motion and energy. The sea's vibrant green shades transition to deeper blues, suggesting depth and the power lurking beneath the surface. Overhead, the sky, tinged with hues of gray and a soft light, hints at the possibility of stormy weather. The light filtering through the clouds illuminates parts of the waves, accentuating their tumultuous nature and the overall majesty of the sea.

Artist

Although the genre of marine art is far from being the easiest and requires a great deal of care, and has recently been forgotten by artists, Povilas Dirgėla is completely faithful to the sea and its element.

It is an inexhaustible theme for the artist - the sea in his paintings is gushing, rising in mighty waves, washing the sandy shores, splashing in the light of the sunset. Sometimes we see the waves crashing on the beach, and sometimes they rage in their majestic immensity. The Klaipėda-based artist says that he has been fascinated by the sea since childhood and has always had a special respect for it: "In my paintings, I try very hard not to offend the sea by being ignorant, disingenuous or badly painted. Maybe that's why the sea shows me its most beautiful and interesting places, which I try to capture on canvas."

Just note that you will never see a boat or a harbour in a painting by Povilas Dirgela, his work is dedicated to the play of water and light and the unpredictable omnipotence of the element.
