Ana Marija Blažienė is an architect, a watercolour artist, and a teacher. Her body of work demonstrates a profound connection to her environment, taking inspiration from the architecture, natural landscapes, and the unique atmosphere of her homeland, Lithuania.
Since 2010, Ana Marija Blažienė has been an active participant in solo and group exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad. Collectors in Lithuania, the USA, Germany, and Taiwan have acquired her watercolours, which have been well received by audiences worldwide.
Blažienė began her creative journey with watercolours during her university years. She recalls with affection the time she spent wandering through the enchanting streets and courtyards of the old town, capturing the natural scenery and the distinctive atmosphere of the locale. In her paintings, she conveys the lively interplay of light and the subtle allure of Vilnius Old Town, focusing on intimate summer scenes where a gentle warmth fills the air, as well as wintry landscapes where snow covers the old tiled rooftops.
Her art also explores other themes, such as fleeting summer recollections from the Lithuanian seaside in Nida—depicting boats, wooden cabins, and windsurfers. Blažienė’s maritime works capture the peacefulness of seaside holidays and invite the viewer into tranquil village alleys lined with authentic wooden houses. Her painting style is defined by the use of soft pastels and areas of untouched white, which she describes as pearls—vital for creating a sense of depth and ambience.
