Dalia Bučytė, both a photographer and painter, is recognized for her experimental outlook on art. Refusing to restrict herself to any single technique or style, she is consistently in search of and experimenting with new artistic approaches and concepts. This continual experimentation forms the core of her creative persona, enabling her to cultivate and communicate distinctive visual ideas through various mediums.
Currently, she is particularly focused on the creation of photo collage-paintings. In this practice, a single photograph acts as the starting point for a composition built up through multiple layers. The photograph itself is treated simply as a base material, comparable to an ingredient in a sophisticated chemical reaction. Through manipulation, layering, and transformation, she produces works that frequently bear little resemblance to their photographic origins. As an illustration, in her work "Paradise Apples," the striking red apples actually originated from a photo of a corner of a hot air balloon, exemplifying the transformative nature of her process.
This creative method not only astonishes her audience but also brings Dalia Bučytė deep enjoyment and involvement. Through this approach, she has the opportunity to revisit memories or impactful events from the past, reimagining them and bringing them forward in her art. For her, creativity is a journey of exploration, with each piece’s final appearance remaining uncertain until it is finished. It is precisely this unpredictability and willingness to venture into the unknown that energizes her artistic pursuits and encourages her to probe more deeply into her subconscious.
Beyond her photography, Dalia Bučytė also expresses herself through acrylic and oil painting. Her paintings typically feature energetic, abstract sweeps of color, making use of diverse tools to create rich textures—occasionally recalling the sensation of velvet fabric—using only paint and brush technique. Though she has explored painting less extensively of late, she intends to return to it and present new works in time. Her artistic experimentation extends to unique watercolor projects as well, which further demonstrate her dedication to exploring a wide range of artistic possibilities.
