More about this artwork

In the painting, a woman stands in an aged room bathed in soft, natural light. Clad in a long blue dress with flowing locks, she gazes downwards in a pensive, introspective posture, her hands modestly clasped in front of her. The room features a large oval wooden table and a matching chair, both suggesting a simple, rustic interior. An open arched window allows sunlight to spill in, casting gentle reflections and shadows upon the table and the floor. The right side of the composition is partly obscured by a textured, blue-grey vertical stripe, contributing an element of modern abstraction to the otherwise serene and traditional scene. The mood is quiet and contemplative, evoking a sense of solitude and calm reflection.

Daiva Dašenkovienė, a Lithuanian artist, earned her degree in painting at the Klaipėda Academy of Arts. Since 2015, she has served as an artist-decorator at the Klaipėda Drama Theater, where her practical skills and theoretical understanding have greatly contributed to her collaborations with scenographers in designing stage decorations. This position has offered her a range of opportunities to deepen her exploration of painting, integrating advancements from both the artistic and scientific realms and encouraging critical, analytical, and systematic approaches to her work.

Daiva’s creative process is rooted in a commitment to depth and conceptual insight; she thoroughly immerses herself in an idea before expressing it visually. She maintains that ongoing self-reflection in art fosters a profound form of visual thought, particularly when addressing the human condition and humanity’s place in the world. For Daiva, painting transcends mere representation of reality; it serves as a means to connect with her surroundings and to raise questions that provoke and potentially transform viewers’ perspectives.

The core of her artistic work revolves around themes that examine human existence, emphasizing objectivity in the perception of human values and the inherent duality of human nature. Drawing on impressions from the natural world, Daiva infuses her compositions with spontaneity, improvisation, and her inner emotional experiences. Through her artwork, she continually investigates the bond between humanity and existence, convinced that life’s recurring patterns are unavoidable and that the act of creation is a path toward renewal and self-discovery.

Daiva Dašenkovienė remains highly engaged with the art community, taking part in various art events and group exhibitions. Over her career, she has organized 14 solo painting shows. Since 2021, she has been a member of the Union of Lithuanian Artists, which has further solidified her reputation and prominence within Lithuania’s art scene.
