More about this artwork

The painting depicts a panoramic view of an old city under a hazy, overcast sky. The cityscape is dense with various buildings, showcasing a mix of residential homes, church spires, and possibly other public structures, depicted in muted tones of gray and blue. The architecture looks distinctly European, featuring gabled roofs and traditional design elements. The overall aura is moody and evocative, suggesting a reminiscence or nostalgia, possibly evoking the artist's childhood memories. The composition emphasizes the layering of the city's sections, fading into a foggy distance where the outlines of buildings blend with the sky, creating depth and a sense of vastness.

Artist

Raigardas Kudirka is an artist who was born and continues to live in Vilnius, Lithuania. Although painting—primarily with oil and acrylic—is his main focus, he remains open to trying numerous artistic techniques. This readiness to experiment brings both diversity and richness to his oeuvre.

Kudirka characterizes his creative process as guided by intuition and emotion. His artistic path began with printmaking, and he values the transparency of pastels. In addition to painting, he sometimes works in collage, assemblage, and even sculpture, consistently letting the atmosphere and character of each piece determine the course his work takes.

The sources of Kudirka’s inspiration are varied, encompassing dreams, literature, music, travel, and even brief cinematic images. He notes that the substance of each creation typically comes into focus closer to completion, allowing viewers the freedom to form their own interpretations. Kudirka enjoys hearing these interpretations, often discovering fresh insights that deepen his own appreciation of his art.

Over the course of his career, Raigardas Kudirka has staged solo exhibitions in several Lithuanian cities, among them Vilnius, Marijampolė, and Biržai. He regularly participates in plein air exhibitions as well, and his works are part of collections in Lithuania, across Europe, and in the United States.
