More about this artwork
The painting depicts a minimalist, abstract figure seated cross-legged over a large, circular pattern reminiscent of a coiled rope or a whirlpool, drawn in bold black strokes on a plain white background. The figure, executed in a simple, stylized manner, appears serene or meditative, positioned precisely at the center of the swirling motif below. The overall composition conveys a sense of calm and centeredness, invoking a meditative quality through its simplicity and the stark contrast between the figure and its patterned base.

Neringa Žukauskaitė, born in 1975, is a Lithuanian artist who completed her MA in Graphic Arts at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2000. As a committed member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union, she has established a significant presence in the field of contemporary art.
Žukauskaitė’s work revolves around themes of quiet reflection and interpersonal connection. By portraying minimalist characters either in pairs or alone, she invites the viewer to enter into a gentle internal dialogue. These tranquil figures—whether engaged in conversation, sitting silently, or contemplating alone by the water—encourage the audience to pause and consider their own emotions and state of mind.
The artist favors earthy, natural tones and employs clean, minimalist lines in her compositions, achieving a harmonious balance between line and shape. This understated approach heightens the meditative stillness within her pieces, prompting contemplation and a sense of peace. Her aesthetic, characterized by clarity and simplicity, appeals to those in search of both visual and emotional calm.
Between 1999 and 2022, Žukauskaitė presented 36 solo exhibitions in Lithuania, Europe, and the USA, and participated in more than 100 group exhibitions internationally, including in Japan. Among her achievements, her graphic work was chosen for the 11th Hida-Takayama International Triennial of Contemporary Woodblock Printing in 2020, and she contributed to the 20th Osaka Triennial in 2001.
