More about this artwork

The painting is a vibrant and surreal composition bursting with color and whimsical elements. At the center, a fantastical pink creature with multiple arms and an exuberant expression lounges atop a piano, its body adorned with yellow and black patterns. The piano keys beneath it are vividly depicted, hinting at a melody of colors with various animals, such as a pink pig and yellow ducks, illustrated within its structure. To the left, a slender vase holds an orange leaf, while to the right, a series of whimsically drawn items add to the composition’s playful tone: a simple pink vase, a plant with broad leaves, and a small table with a blue-shaded lamp shedding tears. Overlooking the scene is a blue ram-like figure with intricate yellow patterns and a red tail, contributing an element of mythical charm. The backdrop includes softly painted blush strokes and leafy fronds that suggest movement and a natural, airy environment, enhancing the overall fantastical and joyful atmosphere of the work.

Artist

Aušrinė Kuzė is a contemporary artist and illustrator who hails from Lithuania. She characterizes her artwork as a whimsical intertwining of elements from nature, people, and their everyday habits, presenting stylized botanical snippets alongside architectural details, routines, and characters. Through a combination of vivid color contrasts and storytelling, Kuzė’s pieces delve into the pleasures and anxieties of daily existence, rendering them in both lively and imaginative ways. Humor lies at the heart of her art, aiming to create an atmosphere that is odd and playful—reminiscent of childhood yet never juvenile—encouraging viewers to discover their own meanings within her work.

Her method of creation is both spontaneous and natural, unfettered by strict rules of logic or fixed selections of color. Each artwork arises organically from the creative impulse of the moment, developing into a vast, interwoven narrative comprised of numerous smaller tales—reflecting the unpredictability of life itself. This fluid approach ensures that every canvas becomes a unique adventure, brimming with unexpected, colorful eccentricities, led by inspiration and instinct rather than by precise design.

Kuzė employs a range of traditional materials to achieve her signature bold and bright look, frequently working with acrylic paints, markers, watercolors, and polychromos pencils. Many of her initial ideas and drafts are born in her cherished sketchbook, which functions as a continuous fountain of inspiration and creative progress. For Kuzė, the sketchbook represents more than a mere tool; it stands as an essential element of her artistic process, where ideas are perpetually examined and evolved.

Beginning her artistic journey at a young age and building upon comprehensive formal training—including a Bachelor’s degree in Glasswork from the Art Academy and subsequent illustration studies at Ballyfermot College in Dublin—Kuzė’s approach demonstrates a unique merging of influences from the disciplines of glass and illustration. Her works have been displayed in exhibitions across Ireland, Lithuania, and Germany, and are now held in private collections in a range of countries such as Ireland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Australia.
