"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė titled "One Color Challenge" is intriguing. It depicts a dining scene with a dark, monochromatic green palette. There's a candle, a bottle, and two glasses, suggesting an intimate setting. Also visible are a plate with a fork and knife and some slices of what looks like pie or cake. Česonytė's style here uses texture and shade variations within the same color to create depth and interest. The brushwork is loose and expressive, which adds a sense of movement to the static scene. The monochrome approach not only sets a mood but also challenges the viewer to explore texture and form without the distraction of multiple colors. The use of differing shades and tints of green makes the whole scene feel dreamy and slightly mysterious.
