Petras Kardokas is an artist whose creativity is fueled by his journeys and his keen observation of Lithuania’s varied natural environments. He discovers a wealth of inspiration in the countryside, capturing these scenes in his paintings much like recording entries in a visual diary. By selecting different times of day and embracing the changing seasons, Kardokas’s art continually conveys serenity, warmth, and comfort, expressing his soft and somewhat romantic view of nature.
Born in the Lazdijai district, an area celebrated for its scenic charm, Kardokas completed his secondary schooling in Mosėdis. It was there that his love for the Lithuanian landscape was likely deepened. He went on to study at the Faculty of Construction-Architecture at KPJ from 1968 to 1973, and this technical training endowed him with a distinctive sense of structure that subtly shapes his paintings.
Following his graduation, Kardokas took up work as a foreman at multiple construction sites throughout Lithuania. Even with the demands of his job, he remained committed to his artistic passion. In the evenings, he refined his skills at the A. Martinaicis Art School, studying under the painter Alfonsas Vilpišauskas. This dedication allowed him to nurture his artistic abilities and eventually make a gradual shift to life as a full-time artist.
From 1990 onwards, Petras Kardokas has devoted himself entirely to painting, realizing a long-held childhood dream. His works stand as a testament to his profound relationship with the Lithuanian landscape and his gentle, poetic sensibility. Collectors and admirers alike are often moved by the genuine warmth and tranquility that radiate from his canvases, ensuring that his role in Lithuanian art is both deeply personal and meaningful.
