Elena Antanavičiūtė (Winner of the Young Painter's Prize, 2020 / Vilnius Academy of Arts , MFA, painting 2021):
"We live in our body, the only one we have. For the last few years, the theme of the body has dominated my work. So I was in the flesh in every sense. The body is not only an object of depiction, but also a creative tool - after all, works are created with its touch. In addition, while painting the body, I am surrounded by works depicting the body.
The theme of the body is both personal and universal. Attitudes towards the body are also determined by the environment, public attitudes, beauty standards, personal experiences. The body is not only the appearance, but also what allows you to experience the world, life. I’m interested in both frequently used body parts and less noticeable wrinkles on the finger joints, folds of skin reminiscent of abstract ornaments or landscapes. Through body we experience the world, and through body I express my reflections."
