More about this artwork

In this painting, an abstract depiction of a person emerges amid a canvas filled with rich, fluid colors and geometric fragmentation. The central figure's face, rendered in tones of flesh, red, and shadows of grey, is dissected by sharp, angular lines and planes that seem to both construct and deconstruct its form. One eye appears clear, gazing outward, while the other is obscured by these slices of color and form. Above the head, a circular white element—perhaps symbolic or functional—adds a surreal accent. The background and the surrounding elements bask in a similar surreal and abstract treatment, with darker hues that suggest depth and mystery. Within the abstraction, there seems to be a muted commotion, possibly other figures or forms in motion, all blending into the dream-like atmosphere.

Artist

Vakarė Armonaitė (b. 2002) is a contemporary Lithuanian painter and graphic artist, representing the newest generation within the country’s vibrant art community. She is currently undertaking Bachelor’s studies in Graphic Art at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, a leading institution in Lithuania that has nurtured and influenced numerous emerging artists.

Her path as an artist began in 2018, immediately following her graduation from the Kaunas Antanas Martinaitis Art School. Motivated to refine her craft, Vakarė became part of a postgraduate creative collective. This influential period allowed her to broaden her experimentation and develop a deeper appreciation for visual creativity.

In 2019, Vakarė further developed her skills both independently and within private studios, collaborating with established artists Rimantas Aitmanas and Lukas Eugenijus Kolmogorcevas. The combination of personal exploration and direct mentorship enhanced her technical proficiency and creative outlook. From 2020 onwards, her involvement in painting and drawing workshops organized by the Vilnius Academy of Arts further advanced her artistic evolution.

From 2021, Vakarė has devoted herself to the academy’s Graphic Art Bachelor’s program, working on her own creative initiatives and showcasing her art in solo exhibitions. Her creations stand out for their liberated, bold use of bright colors, with an emphasis on abstraction rather than realism. Through her work, Vakarė aims to communicate with viewers, utilizing abstraction and color intensity to represent herself and foster an emotional connection.
