More about this artwork

This painting by Rokas Beržiūnas, titled "No. 25-06," shows broad, horizontal bands of color. The colors are muted, with shades of orange, white, brown, and blue overlapping each other. There’s a textured look, almost like old walls or rust.Rokas Beržiūnas uses abstract style here. This style doesn’t focus on clear shapes but rather on emotions and ideas. He plays with soft edges and blended colors to create a calm, reflective feeling. It’s like looking at an early morning sky or a far-off landscape. This approach gives the viewer space to think and feel.

Artist

“The Artist's works are abstract – and this abstractions every single time opens new doors to deeply encoded spaces and hidden meanings."

Rokas Beržiūnas was born in 1983 in Vilnius. From 1994 to 2002, he studied at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art School, specializing in sculpture. In 2006, he graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. From 2004 to 2006, he worked as an exhibition designer at the "Vartai" Gallery. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Association and an officially Recognized Artist by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.

R. Beržiūnas is a painter of the younger generation, whose works have gained recognition both in Lithuania and on the international Art scene. Since 2005, he has specialized in acrylic painting, actively participating in Art Fairs, group, and solo exhibitions. His work balances between abstracted landscapes and pure color/rhythmic abstractions. The artist conveys his philosophical ideas through a visual language that is sometimes subtle, and at other times expressive and temperamental.

The artist’s paintings often evoke unreachable landscapes – cosmic nebulae, star explosions, and the surfaces of unknown planets. Art critic Nijolė Nevčesauskienė notes connections between R. Beržiūnas' paintings and the works of M. K. Čiurlionis. Art critic Vidas Poškus also observes these links: "What connects him to Čiurlionis is primarily their shared plastic alphabet (the shimmering of musically sequenced ornaments or the haze of symbolist mysteries)." The artist himself views this influence as an exceptionally strong starting point that leads him to search for a unique visual language.

Art critic Véra Kempf, analyzing his recent works, highlights the minimalist, refined and sophisticated style of R. Beržiūnas’ painting – soft brushstrokes, emphasizing the Artist's ability to masterfully control colors, textures, and transitions of light, creating subtly harmonious works. The often-used low-saturation tones give his paintings elegance and modernity.

Rokas Beržiūnas is also known for his innovation – in some works, he uses sand and volcanic ash, which give the acrylic a rough, tactile texture that enhances the visual impact. According to V. Kempf, this technique provides the paintings with cinematic feel and depth and creates a unique aesthetic.
