More about this artwork

The painting showcases a figure mostly facing away, enveloped in rich, textural strokes of vibrant colors—reds, greens, and touches of yellow, reminiscent of autumn leaves or fiery embers. The figure itself exudes a mysterious, almost mystical aura, partly obscured and merged with the surrounding colors and patterns that create an almost dripping effect. The top of the painting is dominated by darker hues, deep greens and blacks, flowing downwards like wet ink. The backdrop and figure are intertwined, suggesting motion or transformation, with small specks of blue and white that could be interpreted as twinkling stars or distant lights, adding a touch of whimsy to the overall intense and enigmatic mood. The textures suggest a rugged terrain, perhaps symbolic of emotional landscapes, or a vivid dreamscape painting the complexities of the human psyche.

Lina Beržanskytė-Trembo is a Lithuanian artist whose creative practice draws strongly from her personal emotions and inner experiences. As she herself says, "nothing is invented, everything is felt," a statement that underscores the authenticity and sincerity woven throughout her art. Her canvases become vivid manifestations of her internal reality, rendering both fragile and intense emotions as they materialize in paint.

Her work balances elegantly between abstraction and identifiable forms, most often featuring silhouettes of women and elements of landscape. Lina favors a spontaneous approach, allowing her hand to lead the artistic journey intuitively. While she often draws upon natural motifs and their various transformations, her art centers on the human interior: solitude, serenity, prophecy, prayer, a sense of eternity, and love. Even in her depictions of nature, she investigates recurring cycles that echo human emotional states—loneliness, stillness, renewal, blossoming, and fullness.

The artist characterizes her process as an attempt to capture the link between fleeting instances and the Eternal Mystery. She does so through "the elasticity and vitality of the line" and a "frenzy of colours," channeling visions and desires that have yet to be explored. Each piece becomes an investigation of the threshold between reality and the mystical, inviting viewers to witness her rich inner world.

Lina Beržanskytė-Trembo was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1970 to a family of physicians. She completed her studies at the renowned M. K. Čiurlionis Art School in 1989, specializing in painting, then continued at the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a focus on fresco-mosaic. After earning her degree in 1995, she spent several years living in Stuttgart, Germany, where she took part in solo and group exhibitions. Upon returning to Vilnius in 2000, she organized numerous shows and, since 2007, has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union. So far, she has staged more than 50 solo exhibitions and participated in over 40 group shows both in Lithuania and internationally.
