More about this artwork

In the painting, there's a dense forest depicted under an overcast sky. Tall, slender trees with dark trunks stand prominently, their branches somewhat blurred and blending with the background, suggesting a wind or a mist. The foliage is sparse, allowing a view through the trees to the background which is rendered in a palette of deep blues and hints of purple, evoking a feeling of depth and perhaps the onset of night or a storm. The forest floor is captured in vibrant shades of green, with light seeming to emanate from the ground, creating long, stark shadows that stretch across the scene. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the color contrast and the verticality of the trees, instills a sense of both hope and foreboding.

Artist

Laura Aitmanė was born in 1987. She followed her passion for architecture, graduating in 2010 from the Kaunas Faculty of Arts at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, and again in 2012 from the Kaunas University of Technology, specializing in architecture on both occasions.

Nature is Laura Aitmanė’s primary source of inspiration. Her artistic pursuits are closely connected to landscapes, flowers, and animals. She delights in bird watching and takes particular interest in Lithuania’s wild plants, which often appear as motifs in her creations.

Aitmanė’s unique style features expressive, at times slightly rough, brushstrokes. This method enables her to portray nature in a way that avoids both clichés and excessive sentimentality, infusing her paintings with authenticity and vitality.

Since 2020, Laura Aitmanė has been exhibiting her works in solo shows. Through these exhibitions, she continues to investigate and present her fascination with the patterns and beauty found in nature.
