More about this artwork

The painting depicts a lively and spacious town square, bustling with people. Dominating the scene is the elegant Kaunas Town Hall, distinguished by its high, ornate tower and white facade, accented with detailed windows and architectural decorations. To the left, partially obscured by lush green trees, is another building, possibly a church, characterized by its prominent twin spires that reach into a subtly rendered blue-grey sky. The foreground of the painting is filled with figures of varying indistinctness, representing pedestrians possibly going about their daily routines or enjoying a leisurely stroll through the square. The ground reflects the light, suggesting it might be a wet, possibly recently rained-on surface, enhancing the overall reflective quality of the scene. The color palette is soft, primarily consisting of blues, greys, and earth tones, lending a serene and slightly melancholic atmosphere to the painting.

Aleksandras Lysiukas, born in 1962, began his studies at Vievis Secondary School before continuing his education at the Vilnius Jonas Basanavičius Children's Art School. He completed his secondary education there, which established the groundwork for his artistic path and supported the growth of his emerging talent.

In 1991, Aleksandras developed a strong passion for painting, especially for landscapes that reveal the splendor of nature. While natural scenes often inspire his work, he is also captivated by Lithuanian farmhouses and the narrow streets of cities. Through his art, Aleksandras communicates his deep affection for his homeland’s scenery, portraying distinctive perspectives and the unique moods of various places.

Adopting a realistic style, Aleksandras draws significant inspiration from urban landscapes. He particularly enjoys depicting cityscapes, concentrating on the Old Towns of Vilnius and Kaunas. His works frequently feature some of the most picturesque areas in these cities, emphasizing striking architectural sites or wide panoramic views, occasionally shown from an aerial perspective.

Aleksandras has showcased his art in numerous exhibitions throughout Lithuania, Poland, and Canada, presenting his creative perspective to a wide audience. A member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Union since 2008, he has seen many of his pieces become part of private collections across several countries around the world.
