More about this artwork

The painting captures a vibrant street scene with energetic brush strokes and a play of color. In the foreground, there's a pathway flanked by abstract, colorful forms of trees in shades of orange, green, and white, suggesting a season of fall. The focal point is a large, multi-story building that dominates the center of the composition. It features European-style architecture with visible balconies and numerous windows, each subtly detailed, imparting a sense of life and activity within. The building is painted with a palette of earth tones, whites, and greys, contrasting with the vivid colors of the trees. Small figures of people can be seen at the bottom, rendered in minimalistic, dark outlines, suggesting movement and life on the bustling street. The sky above is dynamic, with strokes of blue, grey, and green, enhancing the overall impressionistic style of the work and suggesting a cool, breezy day. The entire scene is lively, yet harmonious, encapsulated with a sense of everyday vibrancy and architectural beauty.

Artist

Gitas Markutis has a firm place in the art world as an author of modern landscapes. In his works, we often see places in Lithuania that are familiar to most people, but we do not recognise them at first glance.

"Lithuanian nature is beautiful, but not all of the images you see in it are very picturesque, so you have to use your imagination to make the painting interesting. This is not always the case. In painting, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I always try to win back," says the author.

The artist often breaks down the visual landscape into geometric shapes, uses decorative contour lines, colour contrasts, and even if he chooses colours that are less pure and closer to nature, he often changes their ratio and proportion. The author likes to depict landscapes in which the union of nature and human works, architecture is revealed. In his paintings, historical architecture and nature always complement each other, emphasising each other's grandeur.

What we like most is the author's dynamic, purposeful and expressive touch, which gives a feeling of a light breeze, and the exceptional, unexpected, unexpected, artistic composition, which allows us to look at it from a different angle, and which at times even brings the landscape closer to abstraction.
