More about this artwork

The painting displays an energetic assembly of textured, fan-like elements, sweeping across the canvas in a dynamic array of earthy tones. Shades of brown, ochre, amber, and splashes of verdant green mix together, creating an organic melee that suggests movement and natural growth. The strokes are thick and palpable, giving a three-dimensional feel to the elements which resemble leaves or layered petals in a sunlit setting, evoking the rich, ripening essence of September. The background in soft yellow provides a warm, luminous contrast that highlights the vigorous texture and depth of the foreground structures.

Marius Mindaugas Danys (1961–2015) was a graphic artist and creative organizer, widely regarded as both a prominent and controversial figure within Lithuania’s art world. Celebrated for his receptiveness to the rhythm of contemporary life and known for his energetic, restless temperament, Danys left an indelible impression on modern Lithuanian art. His work was marked by a sense of creative liberty and spontaneity, qualities that powerfully attracted art enthusiasts and those drawn to daring, expressive creation.

Nature stands at the core of Danys’s body of work, serving as his most beloved and recurrent theme. Yet instead of simply depicting natural landscapes, Danys aimed to capture the very spirit, force, and elemental nature of the world around him. His brushwork appears to vibrate with wild urgency, often pushing his landscapes toward abstraction. In this expressive manner, he reveals not only the physical world, but also the inner dynamism of his own imagination.

The exceptional vibrancy and emotional depth of M. M. Danys’s color schemes are particularly well-known. Across his canvases, bold and lively hues clash and combine, ultimately harmonizing into subtle, tranquil tones before erupting once more with revitalized intensity. This continual transformation on the canvas suggests nature’s ever-shifting visage and simultaneously hints at deeper, universal enigmas uncovered through his art. The impressive scale of his paintings further amplifies their effect, filling expansive spaces and energizing interiors with their dynamic force.

Art historian Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Aleksandravičiūtė described Danys’s art as unveiling “a frenzied and lyrical world that knows no boundaries: the spheres of the sky and the earth generate each other, the seeds of plants give rise to planets, and colours and spaces are, as it were, linked by love and struggle.” These qualities ensure that Danys’s work stands out for anyone seeking art that surpasses traditional confines, inviting viewers into a realm where elemental powers and creative freedom intersect.
