More about this artwork

The painting depicts a serene evening at the Baltic Sea, characterized by a dramatic sunset that casts a warm glow across the cloud-streaked sky. The colors are a blend of rich oranges, golds, and fading blues merging into the dusky horizon. Below, the sea is rendered in deep blues and muted indigo, with gentle ripples reflecting the fading light. To the right, an old wooden pier stretches into the water, inviting the viewer to venture further into the scene. Its rough structure contrasts with the soft fluidity of the water and the ethereal quality of the sky. The shoreline, detailed with subtle hints of sandy earth tones, leads the eye back towards the water, completing this tranquil maritime vista.

Artist

Eugis Eidukaitis was born in November 1965 in Siberia, Russia, to a Lithuanian family living in exile. He spent much of his childhood and youth in Chisinau, Moldova, where he first encountered the world of art by attending a local art school. Although he would later complete higher studies and receive a diploma in medicine, art and painting always remained an essential part of his life, occasionally serving as a means of support.

In 2000, Eugis Eidukaitis made his way back to Lithuania, where his involvement with art became even more profound. Once settled, painting and drawing assumed a central and continuous role in his daily existence. This change in surroundings and reconnection with his heritage deepened his dedication to artistic work.

The artist finds his greatest inspiration in both urban and natural scenery. He consciously avoids the temptation to romanticize or exaggerate these views. Instead, his art reveals a compassionate and gentle view of the world, as he searches for the subtle and singular beauty present in every subject he chooses. This approach is most noticeable in his treatment of light and shadow, as well as the distinctive use of rich, yet restrained, colors that permeate his paintings.

Today, works by Eugis Eidukaitis—including paintings and watercolors—are held in many private collections. Through his artwork, he communicates his personal view of the world, infusing a sense of tranquility and appreciation for the ordinary surroundings. Each piece invites viewers to discover and value the quiet beauty hidden in the landscapes they know well.
