"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting, "Eccentric" by Kristina Česonytė, is lively and dynamic. Vertical lines of bright colors like blue, pink, and green stretch upward. The effect is playful and wild. Beneath the colors, there's a detailed pattern of fish in grey tones. They swim closely together, creating a sense of movement. The contrasting colors and styles create excitement. The top is abstract, with splattered dots and drips. The bottom is more structured, orderly. Česonytė merges chaos with calm. Her use of mixed media is unique and intriguing. The painting feels alive, almost like a dance of nature and imagination.
