More about this artwork

This painting is bursting with color and mystery. Two figures stand in the center, facing each other. The background is a vibrant mix of blues and greens, reminiscent of a dreamy seascape or an abstract cityscape. Both figures are elongated, with angular, delicate features. Their clothes feature intricate patterns, much like mosaics. The figure on the left has a calm, steady gaze and wears a costume styled with large, organic shapes that feel like leaves or feathers. On the right, the other figure has more geometric patterning and appears almost bird-like, complete with wings.Rolandas Butkevičius, the artist, has melded elements of abstract art with surrealism. His use of bright, contrasting textures adds a tactile dimension to the work. The painting invites viewers to interpret the story behind these two enigmatic characters and their silent, intense exchange. The style is both haunting and beautiful, pulling you into its fantastical, otherworldly scene.

Rolandas Butkevičius, a Lithuanian artist, was born in 1964 in Vilnius to a family of actors. Although his upbringing immersed him in the arts, he chose to become a painter on his own initiative, teaching himself the craft.

From an early age, Rolandas delighted in painting and, at just eight years old, he held his first solo exhibition at the theatre where his mother worked. He often points out that his art is difficult to classify, as it does not follow any particular movement or style. The act of creating provides him with profound satisfaction, and he remains committed to discovering his unique artistic identity.

Over the course of his professional life, Rolandas Butkevičius has presented numerous solo exhibitions in different Lithuanian cities. His artwork has achieved recognition in Lithuania and has also been appreciated by audiences abroad.

His paintings have been acquired by collectors in Lithuania, Ireland, Norway, and the USA, reflecting the widespread admiration for his work. Rolandas continues to focus on painting, further honing his abilities and developing his artistic perspective.
