More about this artwork

This painting by Jūratė Sasnauskienė, titled "Great Nida 4," is a vibrant and beautiful landscape. It captures a coastal scene, probably in Nida, a place known for its picturesque settings. The painting shows a curving shoreline with a sandy beach that blends into a densely wooded area. There’s a calm blue sea, dotted with boats and enhanced by people kite-surfing, which adds a lively touch to the serene water. In the background, there’s a hint of a town with buildings near the water's edge, suggesting a harmonious blend of nature and human habitation. The sky is mostly clear but suggests a transitioning time of day with subtle color shifts. The style of the painting is somewhat realistic with a touch of impressionism, visible in the textured brushwork and the play of light and shadow. Jūratė Sasnauskienė, an artist from Kaunas, Lithuania, has shown a deep enthusiasm for art since childhood. She attended Saulės Gymnasium and continued her studies at the A. Martinitis Four-Year Children's Art School, where these early experiences provided a strong base for her later artistic pursuits and creative growth.

In 1976, Sasnauskienė completed her architectural studies in Vilnius. Her artwork often reveals this architectural background, as she frequently weaves elements of architectural structure and spatial organization into her paintings. This education equips her to present a distinct perspective in her art, merging expressive artistry with the meticulousness of architectural design.

Although Jūratė Sasnauskienė first became proficient in the subtle art of watercolour, she now primarily chooses to work with oils. Oil painting allows her to infuse her pieces with vivid hues and rich textures, vividly animating her subjects. This evolution has enabled her to cultivate a unique style characterized by both technical mastery and expressive depth.

Sasnauskienė’s realistic works often create an atmosphere of tranquility and positivity. Inspired by both human-made structures and the natural landscape, she adeptly depicts historical architectural forms as well as the vibrant splendor of nature and vegetation. Every work embodies her combined love for architecture and the environment, encouraging observers to pause and savor the harmonious scenes she brings to life on canvas.
