More about this artwork

The painting depicts a serene riverscape under a vast expanse of a cloud-streaked sky. A large, modern arched bridge stretches across the river, connecting the two shores. The foreground features a busy riverbank with several boats moored along the side, their varied sizes and shapes adding a quaint charm to the scene. The water reflects a blend of blues and grays, mirroring the overcast sky above and giving the entire landscape a subdued yet vibrant hue. On the left, hints of urban life are visible with structures that suggest a populated riverfront area. Opposite, the other side of the river shows more industrial elements, possibly factories or similar installations, their silhouettes forming part of the horizon beneath the bridge. The overall atmosphere is one of peaceful coexistence between the bustling human activity and the calm flow of the river.

Artist

Viktor Reznik, a Ukrainian artist, now resides and works in Germany. This move has enabled him to discover new settings and enrich his art with influences from both his native country and his adopted home. The interplay of these cultures is essential to the distinctive atmosphere present throughout his creations.

The sky and water are central motifs in Viktor's work. Their boundless blue expanses and ever-shifting forms fascinate him. These elemental subjects shape the stories within his paintings, giving him a way to delve into ideas such as infinity, transformation, and the shifting dance of light and colour.

Reznik’s artwork stands out for its remarkable depth of space, accomplished through his skilful use of varying blue hues. By depicting the fluid connections among sky, water, and the urban landscape, he crafts scenes that immerse the viewer in vivid points of time and place. His distinctive style frequently dissolves the line between what is real and what is perceived, lending each painting a sense of immediacy and timelessness.

His method is especially compelling in his portrayals of boats, sails, and intricately rendered houses placed before sweeping backgrounds. Viktor’s brushstrokes range from fine and pencil-like to bold and commanding, enhancing the reflection of light on water and the liveliness of city waterfronts. The majority of his work was painted in Hamburg and represents actual sites, providing those who know the city with a genuine sense of connection.
