More about this artwork

In the painting, a large river is portrayed with sweeping, textured brush strokes that suggest movement and depth. The river's colors transition from dark blues and blacks on the left, merging into deep browns and lighter blues towards the center. There’s a dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the water, evoking the sense of turbulent, flowing water. The sky is barely distinguishable from the river, but a sliver of light horizon indicates the separation at the upper part of the painting. The foreground on the left shows a touch of vivid greenish-yellow, suggesting grass or riverbank vegetation bathed in sunlight or seasonal change. The painting encapsulates a moment of natural dynamism, heavily imbued with emotion and atmospheric presence.

Artist

Darya Hancharka is a contemporary artist who hails from Minsk, Belarus. She received her artistic training at the Belarusian Academy of Arts before advancing her studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Now based in Vilnius, Lithuania, Darya continues to cultivate her distinctive artistic vision.

She specializes in creating abstract interpretations of landscapes and city scenes, presenting audiences with lively and innovative viewpoints on recognizable environments. In her work, Darya’s hallmark lies in deconstructing sights into large areas of color, which she organizes into striking, original arrangements. Drawing plays only a minor role, as she allows texture and color to dominate her expressive creations.

Darya’s technique stands out for its vigor and immediacy. Employing sweeping, expressive brushstrokes, she shapes fields of color that seem to flicker and vibrate, with hues merging smoothly into one another. She deliberately retains visible brushwork in her paintings, emphasizing the liveliness and impulsiveness inherent in the act of painting.

With this energetic style, Darya Hancharka encourages viewers to see landscapes and cityscapes from an altered perspective. Her paintings exist in a delicate balance between suggestion and abstraction, producing works that communicate both strong emotion and a profound fascination with the expressive capacities of color and shape.
