Artist

He studied at the J. Naujalis Art School.

Studied painting at the Vilnius Academy of Arts with Vladas Karatajas, Antanas Kmieliauskas, Arvydas Šaltenis and Algimantas Švėgždas. Arūnas Vaitkūnas, Audronė Petrašiūnaitė, Eugenijus Varkulevičius, Nomeda Saukienė studied in the same generation.

The author's works will take you back to his idyllic childhood in the countryside. Jonas Šidlauskas himself makes no secret of the fact that his work is inspired by his childhood memories and summers spent in the countryside near Kaunas. And when the spring comes, the artist always moves from the city to the countryside, where he can paint in the fresh air and surrounded by nature.

Like the first representatives of modern art, the Impressionists, the artist loves plein-air painting, for him it is important to capture the play and flicker of light, to convey an impression. Through this flickering and hasty brushstrokes, the paintings often veer towards abstraction. Although Šidlauskas' landscapes are romantic, they are not over-sweetened and create the cosy, dreamy atmosphere we always strive for in our homes.

The artist's works are in private collections in Lithuania, Germany, Japan and the USA.
