"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This lively painting features two pink ballerinas. They seem caught in mid-motion, stretching and reaching with graceful limbs. The artist, Kristina Česonytė, uses vivid colors and strong outlines to bring these figures to life against a textured background of yellows and greens. Česonytė has chosen a style that feels both expressive and energetic. The thick strokes and bright colors give the painting a dynamic, almost whimsical quality. It's as if we can feel the movement and the music to which the ballerinas are dancing. Through this artwork, she not only captures the elegance of dance but also infuses it with a sense of joy and freedom.
