Jūratė Stauskaitė is a distinguished Lithuanian artist, celebrated for the gentle touch and lightness that define her work. Her unique style features swift, fluid, and malleable lines, paired with translucent brushstrokes and a minimalist approach to composition. Stauskaitė attributes great importance to drawing, describing it as the "artist's cardiogram"—a reflection of the soul’s inner pulses, keenly capturing fleeting sensations and movements with exceptional sensitivity.
Among the recurring elements in Stauskaitė’s art are birds, women, and, at times, a poetic union of both—female birds. These figures are often illustrated in motion, whether dancing or flying, and her spontaneous linework masterfully expresses their sense of movement. Through these motifs, Stauskaitė reveals internal experiences and transformations that viewers can intuitively sense, allowing her art to remain vibrant, dynamic, and emotionally charged.
Her artistic range encompasses not only drawing and painting but also ventures into printmaking, watercolor, stage design, and book illustration. As an engaged participant in the cultural sphere, she has authored essays and articles and collaborated with both radio and television. In 1991, she established Lithuania’s first private art school, and her educational efforts, along with her singular artistic voice, have been acknowledged as noteworthy artistic phenomena, particularly throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Gaining international recognition, Jūratė Stauskaitė’s artworks are held in esteemed museum collections, including the National Museum of Art and MO Museum in Vilnius, the M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum in Kaunas, the Ludwigs Museum in Cologne, the National Gallery in Prague, and the New Orleans Museum of Modern Art. She has presented nearly 70 solo exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad and taken part in many international printmaking exhibitions, further underscoring her significant influence and acclaim within the art community.
