Domino Sugar

Gediminas Sprindys, an artist originating from Kaunas, Lithuania, spent his formative years in the Žaliakalnis district. He pursued his studies at the Vilnius Art Institute—today recognized as the Vilnius Academy of Arts—before being assigned, upon graduation, to a position in Klaipėda. Sprindys recalls these early times as both beautiful and achingly pleasant chapters of his life.

For almost three decades, Gediminas Sprindys has resided in New York, dedicating his expertise to furniture and interior design. This extensive professional journey has given him a profound understanding of interiors, encompassing their functionality, professional routines, and visual expression—qualities reflected in the simplicity and aesthetics that define his art.

Sprindys makes no secret of his intentional distance from art history and current artistic currents. Rather than immersing himself in theory or the shifting trajectories of art, he seeks to produce works that are direct and visually appealing. He observes that people’s living spaces are shaped by what attracts or repels them, wishing simply for his art to provide a sense of well-being without demanding attention.

Gediminas Sprindys primarily works in watercolour, showcasing mastery over its layering, transparency, and fluid characteristics. His paintings frequently depict urban scenes, with a particular emphasis on the modernist architecture of Kaunas and the renowned skyscrapers of New York. Through delicate, translucent washes, he brings a surprising lightness to representations of glass and concrete, subtly evoking the fleeting and impermanent essence of city life.
