More about this artwork

The painting portrays an abstract vista, suggestive of a harbor enveloped in mist. Dominant hues of black, gray, and brown merge at the center, resembling the silhouette of a ship or a landform half-obscured by fog. Strokes of light blue and white cascade over and around this central darkness, evoking the impression of water, spray, or a cold sea breeze. The white patterns, reminiscent of nets or webbing, overlay much of the composition, adding a textural depth that hints at complexity beneath the surface. The overarching mood is one of mystery and elemental intertwine, where sea meets sky and clarity merges with obscurity.

Dalia Kirkutienė is recognized for her bold and expressive style of painting, emphasizing a direct conveyance of emotion and feeling. Her artistic path has brought her into the world of abstract painting, where she investigates the vibrant possibilities offered by the pouring technique. This approach, balancing randomness with control, enables Kirkutienė to encapsulate elusive elements of experience. The fluid movement of paint has evolved into a hallmark of her oeuvre, showcasing both her mastery of technique and her innate creative instincts.

Kirkutienė frequently seeks clarity by choosing a restrained color palette. When she limits or omits color altogether, the structural aspects of her compositions become most prominent. On occasions where she introduces color, it plays a pivotal part, acting as the primary vehicle for expressing feeling and significance. The addition of titles and occasional suggestions of familiar forms introduces further interpretive layers, encouraging viewers to encounter each piece on their own terms. To Kirkutienė, painting resembles poetry more than prose, favoring suggestion and associative meaning instead of direct depiction.

The relationship between her work and its audience is fundamental to Kirkutienė’s artistic outlook. She considers every painting to be renewed through the perspective of another, purposely avoiding definitive interpretations. By emphasizing openness and ambiguity, she invites viewers to find their own personal meaning and emotional connection in her work. This dialogic stance positions the viewer at the heart of the creative process, highlighting the uniqueness of individual perception and understanding.

Dalia Kirkutienė graduated from the Textile Studies program at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA), Faculty of Kaunas. She actively participates in the Lithuanian Artists' Union and resides and works in Klaipėda. Among her significant accomplishments is the completion of nearly 200 paintings for the Pacai Hotel. Her art has reached wide audiences, with extensive showings that include ArtVilnius 19, as well as exhibitions in Berlin, Paris, and more than 30 venues throughout Lithuania.
